Director¡¯s Welcome
It is a great pleasure to welcome you to the Institute
of Atmospheric Physics (IAP). Taking this opportunity,
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to all
the staffs in the institute who contribute their efforts
in the research work, as well as to your strong support
in my work. During the past few years, we have been
trying hard to fulfill our mission to help IAP become
one of the first-class institutes in CAS.
The year 1999 was the beginning of a new era for the
Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy
of Sciences (IAP/CAS). Since that time, the propulsion
of the Knowledge Innovation Project has vitalized IAP,
which has a glorious history and has seen resplendent
success. IAP has made much effort and improved than
ever. On the one hand, IAP has streamlined its process
of research, focusing on the frontiers of international
studies and corresponding to the needs of the nation,
strengthening the construction of a team of talent,
and making great investments in its comprehensive capacity.
On the other hand, IAP has created a benign environment
for the development of its staff by strengthening the
scientific, democratic and systematic construction of
the institute, building an excellent administrative
mechanism, and optimizing the performance assessment
mechanism, which has greatly improved the enthusiasm,
initiative and creativity of the staff. With new vital
force, the scientific and technological output has been
greatly increased, excellent talent emerges all the
time, the fruit of international cooperations has become
prominent; and the institute¡¯s creativity has been enhanced
constantly. No doubt, all these achievements form the
strong and stable base for IAP to advance further and
develop itself into a world-class research institute.
I am convinced that the tomorrow for IAP will be even
brighter than today. And I believe we will build IAP
into a first-class research institute in the world with
sustainable creative ability in the atmospheric science
field; to build IAP into a scientific research team
characterized with high-level knowledge, reasonable
age structure, and full vigor and vitality; and to construct
IAP into a modern, efficient and highly internationalized
research system. IAP has another abbreviation: Innovation,
Association, Progress, which form the core of IAP's
spirit. We are confident that we could bring the best
of ourselves to the outside world.
