Research interests
Prof. Yimin Liu, doctor. She is mainly engaged in subtropical
weather and climate dynamics, Tibetan Plateau climate
dynamics and climate simulation. She has studied the formation
of the subtropical anticyclone systematically. She revealed
how the different kinds of heating contribute differently
to the formation and variation of the subtropical anticyclones,
and how their combination affects the subtropical climates.
She contributes to the development of the thermal adaptation
theory and demonstrates how the atmosphere responds to
different kind of heating and cooling. She also discovered
how the deep condensation heating during the BOB monsoon
onset can trigger the monsoon onset over the Southern
China Sea. Moreover she conducted a series of study on
the impacts on the Asian climate of the land-sea thermal
contrast and the Tibetan Plateau mechanical and thermal
forcing. She has published more than 70 papers on domestic
and international academic journals and 3 books. Her PhD
thesis was one of the Excellent PhD theses in China in
2001. She received Ye Du Feng Zheng Award for Excellent
Paper of Young Scientist in 2001 and Zhao Jiuzhang Award
of the Science and Technology for Young Scientist in 2005.
