“气候科学支持服务伙伴关系中国项目”出版专刊

  启动于2014年的中英联合科学创新基金(在英国简称牛顿基金)旗舰项目“气候科学支持服务伙伴关系中国项目”于2018年在Advances in Atmospheric Sciences 发表专刊 (https://link.springer.com/journal/376/35/8 ),集中报导了该项目五年来在亚洲季风、气候预估、模式研发、以及气候服务等方面合作研究取得的进展。 

  在全球气候变化背景下,暴雨、洪水、热带气旋、热浪和干旱等极端事件可能会增加,导致灾难性损失。气候服务在应对这些挑战方面的作用越来越重要。英国气象局Hadley中心、中国气象局国家气候中心、中国科学院大气物理研究所以及中英多所知名大学共同参与的“气候科学支持服务伙伴关系中国项目”(英文全称:the Climate Science for Service Partnership China,简称CSSP China, https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/research/collaboration/cssp-china ),建立了新型合作研究模式,发展可支撑气候服务的科学。 

  “多年来,科学界在观测和理解地球的天气和气候上取得了重大进展。随着这些科学认知的发展,社会也越来越意识到天气和气候相关灾害的风险以及人类社会对风险防御的脆弱性。”英国气象局首席科学家同时也是CSSP项目协调人之一Stephen Belcher教授认为,“我们希望气候服务提供的气候信息使得中英两个国家都能具备应对气候变化的恢复力,以保障经济发展、造福社会。”例如,专刊文章之一--长江流域夏季降水预测成功进入业务化阶段作为CSSP China项目合作研究的一项成果,为长江流域防洪减灾决策提供了信心。 

  Stephen Belcher同时也是CSSP China专刊的客座编辑之一。英国气象局Peter Stott教授、中国气象局宋连春研究员和巢清尘研究员,中国科学院大气物理研究所陆日宇研究员和周天军研究员也担任了期刊的共同编辑。 

  宋连春研究员认为:“通过CSSP China项目,我们建立并强化了两国科学家的战略伙伴关系,围绕研究和创新,通过坚实的科学基础,以支撑气候服务发展,支持全球和中英两国适应气候变化的经济发展和社会福祉需要。” 

  CSSP China的合作研究顺利程度超出我们的预期。”陆日宇研究员评价CSSP China取得的进展时说,“我们原以为英方科学家需要花相当长时间理解中国的区域气候问题,但通过双方的密切交流和人员互访,尤其是在数据、模式上的积极共享,这个过程大大缩短,新的合作成果不断涌现,专刊仅展示了近期的一些成果,我们对接下来阶段的合作充满期待。” 

  CSSP-China专刊收录了17篇文章,包含两篇“新闻和观点”、一篇数据描述文章、以及14篇原创论文,内容包括:东亚地区历史气候数据恢复、东亚夏季降水季节预测、合作提高卫星资料质量、合作改进英国和中国的气候模式、理解气候模式预报太平洋热带气旋的能力等,涵盖了CSSP-China项目的五个研究领域: 

  • 中国和东亚区域的气候的模拟、归因、再分析
  • 全球气候变率和变化动力学
  • 东亚气候变率与极端事件
  • 气候预估模式开发
  • 气候服务
